The 3 Stones Story
The stony soils of our 3 Stones home block inspired our name. These stones retain heat, creating a striking intensity of flavour in the grapes – a characteristic that now provides the inspiration for all the wines in the 3 Stones range. Our winemakers carefully select parcels of fruit that showcase such intense varietal characters, crafting a wine to be enjoyed with fine food, in good company.
The three stacked stones of our label symbolise how the three diverse elements of soil, climate and craft must come together to create a beautiful wine. It is possible to grow a vine almost anywhere, but to produce a distinctive and enjoyable wine that is representative of the unique region in which it has been grown requires the three elements to reach a perfect balance or symmetry.
The 3 stacked stones of our label are symbolic of time when young men returned from fighting in the great world wars. Upon their return home, life had changed considerably and many were unable to find permanent work. As a result, many young men travelled from farm to farm, working for farmers on their land for a few days here or there. As a signal to those who might follow, when they left a farm where the food was good and the pay was fair, they would make a small stack of stones on a fencepost at the farm gate.
We celebrate that tradition with our name, 3 Stones and we salute all those who have gone before, who made it possible for us to work the soil under clear skies.
The range includes a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Cabernet/Merlot.
