Established 74 years ago, but with a story spanning almost 90 years, the Calabria journey has not been an easy road but through determination, hard work and family vision, Calabria Family Wines has flourished to be one of Australia’s top 20 wine producers.
Bulletin Place – The Story. Leonard Paul ‘Len’ Evans (OBE,AO) was at the forefront of the early Australian wine industry’s drive for quality and international recognition. He was often referred to as ‘the godfather of the Australian wine industry’ and was Decanter Magazines ‘Man of the Year in 1997. In 1969, he established Len Evans Wines in Sydney, a private dining club for wine lovers and also a retail shop. It was located in Bulletin Place, which is said to be the oldest commercial building still operating in Australia. Here, blind tasting was raised to an art form with the invention of the now world-famous Options Game. Those who wished to further their wine education naturally made a beeline for Bulletin Place, and many of those now at the forefront of the Australian wine and food scene publicly thank Les for their advanced education at The Bulletin Place Finishing School.
After Evans death in 2007, Bill Calabria, owner of Calabria Family Wines, took over the Bulletin Place label.
